87 QuadSport Question
#1
I bought this 87 Quadsport from a kid down the street i looked at the oil level indicator and i didnt see anything i thought it was low but i dont think it was now that i think about it ..so i added a little over a quart started it up and it started smoking.. Didnt smoke before i added the oil...I drained it all fearing i overfilled it put in about 2 quarts still smokes i didnt think running it for about 3 mins with to much oil in it would cause it to burn up a ring or somthing.. i drained all the oil out again and added 2 quarts agian still smokes changed the plug still smokes i can see oil at the tip of the exhaust pipe so its spitting it out but like i said would 3mins with to much oil burn up the ring? any help would be Appreciated.. P.S. It didnt smoke untill i added the extra oil..

Did you make sure you put in the right classification of oil. I would refer to the manual and make sure, just a thought. I did that in a ride on mower once, didn't pay attention and it smoked alot untill i put in the right oil, let us know.

yea im pretty sure I was sure it was a 4 stroke so i put in a 10-w40 after i put it in and started it i relialized that i over filled it like i said ran for about 3 mins then drained and put in a motorcycle 4 stroke 10w40 2 quarts of it still smoked then i drained that out and put in 1 and 1/2 quarts 10-40 and 1/2 quart of ring treatment still smokes like a Train

Just ride it. It has oil all inside the exhaust pipe now because you over filled it. Either that or you was wrong about it not smoking before. It will take a long time to get all the oil out of the pipe. I used to ride the **** out of mine and then when it was good n hot I would hit it again with a torch till it stopped smoking. It took a LONG time to get it all out.
Oh, and about the oil. You need oil for OLD engines (1988 and earlier). Type SG I think. SL is no good for your clutches and it will make them slip a little. Walmart has Accell brand oil that says pre-1988 right on the bottle.
