Shocks, how often do you change them?

How many years do you wait to change out the stock shocks on your quad. I have a older KQ and my shocks are set on the highest setting. I like this for the clearance, but the suspension seems really lacking. Not a whole lot of bounce. I know that these are oil dampered shocks, is there any way to bring them back to life, or add some spring. I want to hit some jumps, but don't want to break my back, LOL.

Jumping with a utility is like eating rice crispies without milk. Sure you can do it, but in the end it isn't all that satisfying. You could probably have the shocks rebuilt (but they probably aren't rebuildable) You may find something aftermarket that would work too. In the end if you really want to start jumping you would be better off buying a used sport quad though, preferably something in the 400 class at least.

Thanks guys, I know a sport quad would be ideal for jumping and racing, but that's not what I do as a whole. I mostly trail ride and like to go into the river every now and again. But when I can hit something along the way, I definately get excited. Maybe I need to look into maybe more of a sport utility in the near future. Yeah, this one just sord of landed on me, my wifes co-worker gave us a really reasonable payment plan that it made it almost stupid not to buy it. So I have been having a blast on it. The brakes are non-existent, but from what I understand that is normal for those drums (if you like the water and mud). Anyheeew, just wish that the springs where a little softer. Maybe less air in my tires? Would that help?

I remember jumping my KQ - "Big Air" = 6" or less. As I've said before, the KQ has it's limitations. With 4.3" of travel, there is only so much you can do. When I moved from a KQ to an Eiger, I was amazed at how much better the suspension was and how much more I could do with it. And let's face it, the Eiger isn't a real sporty machine.
I'd enjoy your KQ as you are and use what yu learn form it to help choose your next quad.

I started with the 250 4x4. It sure did hurt to jump.
Then a guy let me ride his 250R. My 4x4 was traded the next day for the R.
That's my 4x4 to R story LOL
If you want a 4x4 to pound on, look at the bombardier. Those renegades look cool!
Imagine a 800cc machine with a real suspension. And I thought it was a great thing when the KQ came out at the whopping 280cc's or whatever they were.
