sag
yesterday i was helping my friend adjust his dirt bike shock and we had to set it to the propper sag(the distance a fixed point will drop when the rider sits on it) he said it was pretty much universal on dirt bikes for being 4 inches i was wondering if atvs had one or just dirt bikes?

anything with suspension has "sag" including a car or truck......
Any vehicle designed to carry cargo or a passenger or both will have a sag ratio..... how much or little totally depends on the application.... an MX/SX bike might have as much as 4" of sag but generally 2-4 is what most guys will run for MX.... they want as much travel as possible for pre-loading big triples.....
For ATVs it also depends on what you are looking for. Generally sag is adjusted with a spring rate adjustment. A guy riding flat-track might want 4-plus inches of sag since you want the quad as low as possible. XC racers might like 2-3 inches and an MX racer might only like 1-2.... it all really depends on what you are racing and your style....

what would you recomend for some trail riding no crazy jumps or whoops just some small bumps</end quote></div>
generally most people are fine with about 2-inches of sag, but a little less won't make much of a difference......it also depends on your ATV.. a utility ATV might have zero sag with the rider on it because the suspension also needs to handle cargo weight.
It is far less critical on ATVs then on bikes.... it is also less critical for trails compared to MX/SX racing...
Most sport machines are designed to work with about 2 inches of sag....
