'85-'86 lT250R VS. '87-'91

85/86 +cheaper to buy than a 87-92
-less aftermarket parts available
-less hop ups available (bigbore kits etc)
- the swing arm WILL break if it hasn't already problably will break the casesaver out of the engine case when it does
- no powervalve
87-92 + all the - of the 85/86 are gone, - you will spend more for one on the initial investment.

The main difference between the 85/86 and the 87 and later models is the later models have a powervalve. Which makes them faster. And the frame is a little more reinforced. But as far as the 85/86 having less aftermarket parts available for them, I would have to disagree.

One of the things I liked about the '85-'85 model was that the dry weight was 293lbs! The later models were around 325lbs and used a complicated chain adjustment system. The later models had the power valved MX style motor equipped with a 6 speed tranny. The front shock angle was changed on the later models as well. My brother has a cherry '92 model and it is way fun to ride. It will be interesting to see how Suzuki's new sport quad stacks up against the older ones.
