I just bought this atv and it's in really good condition except a small crack right near the cylinder head on the exhaust header (Next to one of the welds). My thoughts are these headers tend to get very hot according to other posts I've read even glowing hot sometimes. I would imagine a mig weld repair will just crack out again? I've went onto a micro fische to look for a new replacement part on many of the various sites and none show the price, they just say "call us" ?????? What does that mean, it's not available any more ? I also thought about fixing this one with a heliarc machine then having it ceramic coated inside and out to help with durability.......any thoughts or anyone know where I could get a good used one ? all advice appreciated!

 

Just tig it up and go ride.

Ceramic coating gives very little if any strength. I would not do it because if it cracks again you can just tig it up again, if you ceramic coat it, it makes that job that much more difficult.
I've welded up many pipes and most don't crack again.

 

The ceramic coating was not for strength but to help deal with the high heat issue's that are prone to this machine. Ceramic coating does help with heat issue's as I've used it lots on boosted sleds. I guess I'll have to break out the high freak machine. Would rather find a non cracked version if anyone knows where I might look? Maybe a salvage yard, looking on the net hasn't been very productive
