It could be running rich due to a dirty air filter or worn carb parts. OR it could be the primary magneto coil needs replaced. I'd clean/replace the filter and then inspect the carb. If you see something like this:
That's why it would be running rich. If all else fails, its the primary coil of the magneto. Costs $40-$60 and will require a tube of Black RTV and Red Thread Locker and about an hour or two of your time.
