KingQuad 450 - Left the parking brake on
Hi there,
I'm new to ATV'ing and after using an old Timberwolf 250, I bought myself a new KingQuad 450. It's got about 250 miles on it.
Tonight, I let my daughter loose on it and she took off and ran for about 4 miles with the park brake on. There was oil drips coming out the rear end vent hose and the case was too hot to touch. The oil has a burnt smell to it.
The rear brake is quite ineffective now.
Can anyone let me know what damage to expect?
Thanks.

yeah I've heard of this happening on the KQ before, suzuki should've put on a saftey switch or light indicator when the parking brake is on b/c I can see how easy it'd be to forget this.
I hardly ever use my rear brakes on my KQ, the fronts seem much stronger and more controlable and I dont like it when my rear tires want to lock up and tear up the lawn

If your park brake had been set up enough she couldn't have ridden it with the brake on.
In any case you need to change out the rear gearcase oil. DON"T USE GEAR OIL! It takes special wet brake oil either from a dealer or a tractor supply house.
If there's lots of lining left you may be able to salvage some braking life. Hope so because parts are very dear for those rear brakes. One guy found it cheaper to just replace the whole rear gearcase with one from a salvaged wreck.
