LTZ 400 Hotcams

Default LTZ 400 Hotcams

hey i resently got an ltz 400 winter is just around the corner and i was going to redo the hole engine and do some ad on's and stuff i wanted to put hot cams in it intake and exhaust i was wondering if its really hard to do... if i should attempt it myself or just take it to a mechanic or suzuki dealer to do it let me know thanks

i would not by any means call it hard to do ,i would suggest getting a shop manual .
the valve lash is different for hot cams and depending on how many hours you have on it there are some other things that should be changed, timeing chain,maybe new intake valves and its a good time to do some porting .

so if im not going to port it and put like a 440 or 453 big bore kit on it that i should'nt even go ahead and put the hot cams in it ?

by all means do the hot cam's ,the BBK will get you more power but your going to need to do all the other things that go along with it to get the advantage of the BBK
like an FCR carb ,dyna cdi , full yosh pipe , better intake boot, even a lighter flywheel helps .
one thing thats been a problem with the Z is the cam chain , if your in the engin you should replace it with a DID .
if you end up taking off the head then replace the intake valves and if you can, change the rings or even better get a higher compreshion piston ,some thing like 12.5:1
all this alown could put ya at or near 38 hp.
