First Maintenance on 2007 Eiger
My Eiger is Brand New. Actually, I have had it for about 6 months, but I was deployed right after I got it, so it has been sitting for the last 5 months. It has about 2-3 hours on it right now. I am getting ready for hunting season and am looking to get it serviced (service it) to make sure it is good to go.
What is recommended. Yes, I read the manual, but I am looking for some advice based on experience. It starts and runs good as it is supposed to. It might just be me as this is the first quad I have owned, but it seems a little noisy - almost like a Singer sewing machine sometimes. Rat tat tat. I am probably exaggerating the noisiness, but Is that normal?
Thanks again!

The most important thing to do is to change the oil and check the valve clearance at 100-150 miles, and follow the break-in procedure. My Eiger seems to have a tick to it like you describe too. I thought it was the valves but I have checked and adjusted the valves 3 times and the noise remains, and it has not lost power and runs excellent. So, I'm not really concerned.

Thanks! That's exactly the kind of sound I am talking about. Glad to know it is fairly normal. Regarding the valve checking, is there a procedure for that? Is there a link to a how to. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but have never worked on a cycle motor, only cars. Thanks again!

Is the ticking from running too lean? or does it sound soft like a spark plug firing?
I had a similar type tick (noticable loud) with my Eiger until I rejetted it. I opened up the pilot screw to richen up that mixture during idle and 1/4 throttle and I also had to jump the main jet up to 132 to keep it from running too lean during runs. I'm in Cincinnati, so elevation wasn't an issue...just too lean from the factory (d*mn emission regulations!). Only ticking I hear now is soft and I attribute to the spark plug firing.

Doesn't seem to be running lean at all. Starts, runs, and idles just fine. Actually it seems to be more noticeable after it warms up and not so much when it is cold.</end quote></div>
x2. As far as adjusting the valves. Tear off the side plastic and pull the fuel tank. Turn the motor to TDC on the compression stroke (there is a threaded plug on the left side of the motor that will let you see when you are at TDC via a mark on the fly-wheel). pull the valve covers and use a feeler gauge to check the clearances. The exhaust valves are a little tricky to get to, but it's pretty simple overall.
