i recomend the same thing, a good carb cleaning and try and mess with the idol speed. idk much about your specific type of ATV, but kinda sounds like your low end (pilot) in your carb might be gunked up and not allowing enough fuel to mix at idol. Will it just not idol? or can you ride it around with no other problem?
hope this helps some

also try cleaning you spark arrester if it has one... check you fuel lines to make sure there no pin holes or somthing that might be letting air in where its not supposed to be... that happened to a friend of mine

bigboss6920 is right, check for air leaks into the engine, spray a carb cleaner around the the carb and fittings while holding the throttel at a steady rate, since it wont idol. if the engine rpms increase noticeably then you may have an air leak.
but it may also be that your pilot jet is all gunked up and it not letting any fuel mix at idol. if possible, try and remove the pilot jet and clean it up along with the carb

This is one I can even help on I think! Maybe... Turn your idle (fuel/air) mixture screw clockwise a quarter inch at a time until you can idle properly. I am almost sure this is your problem. Sometimes when valves get gunked up (intake valve especially) it may be necessary to turn your idle screw back counter - clockwise to get her to fire. I have definately found this to be true for me. Good luck!! Let us know how you make out.
