Ozark 250 -- rear tire recommendations?
#1
I own (2) Ozark 250, with 1 in need of new rear tires. There aren't to many choices in the stock 22-10-9 size. The original Dunlop tires have worked well and the only real complaint I have with them is the extremely loud noise,"whine", when riding on pavement. Can hardly hear the engine because of the tire noise. I ride a mile to work everyday and would love to get a tire that isn't so noisy.
Anybody have any recommendations ?
Been looking at the ITP Mudlite in 22-11-9, which I have told will fit my application.
Anybody run these tires?

Ok-didn't get any responses, so I will answer my own question.
I wanted to replace the OEM Dunlop tires on my Suzuki Ozark 250. The tire howl on hard pack dirt or pavement was almost more than I could stand. Folks could hear me coming for a 1/2 mile. Noise is probably not a normal reason to buy new tires, but is what bothered me most.
Spent hours reading everything on ATV tires that I could find, looking for any tires that were not as noisey. Began to focus in on the "ITP Mudlites". A couple reviews indicated this tire was a good trail tire as well as quiet so I took a gamble.
Ordered, received and mounted the new "Mudlites" and am very pleased. Replaced the original Dunlop 22-10-9 with the available Mudlite 22-11-9 without any noticeable change in overall tire dimensions. On the street they ride very smooth with no vibration and best of all they are nearly silent. Hooray!!! The 6ply rating, light weight and more aggressive tread are just icing on the cake.
I drive my ATV a mile to work everyday on pavement and the reduction in noise was worth every penny.
Headed for the trails "Veterans Day" and will let you know how they do when used offroad for their intended purpose.

I find my Bear Claws to be less noisy on asphalt than the stock tires despite their aggressive appearance. The Maxxis Sur Traks are more noisy than the Bear Claws.
See my pics to see both on an Ozark.
You lucky SOB! I sure wish I could drive my quad to work on the asphalt in the state of Washington!

Didn't know other states banned street driving. I am very lucky indeed. When gas went up I started driving my Ozark everywhere. Went so far as to sell my second car. Added a Slipstreamer ATV windshield and find I am very comfortable riding in 20 degree weather @35mph. Windshield pops right off for trail riding.

What kind of gas mileage do you get on the asphalt? When I ride on the trails and logging roads, I usually get 30-50mpg.
With the great gas mileage, I think allowing quads on the asphalt would be a great way to fight sky rocketing gas prices (and yes, the gas prices will go back up again)

In most states, it wasn't banned because it was never legal to begin with. Too bad it's not legal here. I'd throw some street tires on the LTR ride it all over town!
