Transition, Motocross to Flat track racing
#1
I used to race motocross and i want to start racing TT or flat track racing. I ride a Suzuki LTR-450 and I'm thinking about lowering it. Any advice or suggestions on how to modify the quad for this style of racing? Any info and or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Eric

Welcome to the forums Eric. Lowering is a must. A swaybar is also.
Tires: you should check the rules where you plan on racing. Some circiuts/tracks only allow some types of tires.
You'll need to scale the machine. Get yourself 4 scales and put the machine on them. You want to get the weight of each tire the same. Then you adjust the right sway arm slightly tighter putting a lil more load on the right front. This is called "putting a wedge in it".
Measure around the tire and adjust the tire pressure to make the tires the same length around. Most think checking the air pressure alone does it.
That'll get ya going.
I loved racing TT/flat track.

Thanks for the info LT80, and i was looking into it and where im looking to race, they have 2 different classes, one for those who run motocross tires and one for those who run tt tires. and i found a lowering kit for the front and rear. I mean i dont really know what im looking for, is there a certain brand that is the best or are they all basically offering the same products? Also if i go with a lowering kit that lowers the front 3.5 inches and widens it by about 2 inches, should i run the stock axle or an extended or 2+2 axle?
Thanks Eric
Thanks Eric

Most tracks have rules that limit the width of your quad to 50 inches. If that's the case at your local track, lowering an LTR actually pushes the front wheels beyond 50 inches. So, you will have to go with 4+1 offset front wheels inward and get the front width back under 50 inches.

Anyway, like I said before, check with your local track's rules so you don't spend money that could be used for tires or more power.

I do not have opinions on any brand of lowering stuff. Like the dude above said, 50" max. So let that help you in that decision.
An adjustable axel is needed once you get into it. Wider for more traction, narrower for less traction.
Maybe try the mx class and see how you like it. You can also see what others are doing to their machines.
