Ive got a 1987 Suzuki lt230eh. I just rebuilt the top end with a 60over bore and weisco piston and rings.

I cant seem to get the wheeler to idle, either it dies out or it revs rpms on its own without me touching the throttle, when i ride it it goes like a bat out of hell, all sorts of power, and runs nice and smooth. i just cant seem to figure out y it wont idle.

So if u have any ideas on what the problem might be, it would be greatly appreciated!

 

i think you have 2 problems. 1 being the pilot jet is too lean, locate it and turn it in or out 1/4 turn at a time until it idols perfectly. if its a mikuni carb go in.

do that after you solve your second problem though! your second problem sounds like an intake leak, that is why its reving on its own. to test this, take off air filter and put your hand over th intake tightly. then, with the kill switch set to off, hit the starter until it turns over a couple times. this will create a vaccume in the intake. if you have an air leak the vaccume will only last for a few seconds. if you do not have an intake leak the vaccume will last for a goot 30seconds plus. then you can start tightening down everything and see if there are any gaps or tears in the intake itself.

I would agree that there seems to be an air leak that is making it rev on it's own. The idling problem almost sounds more like a pilot jet that might be plugged. I think that I would pull it out and make sure that it is clear, and it might be that it is too lean as well given the work that you have done.
