I just got an 03 Vinson 500 last week. I haven't got to ride it much because I've been have trouble getting it into gears and sometimes staying in. So I decided to tear it apart to find the fix. Hopefully this will be inciteful to anyone else having the same problem.

First thing I did was to check the cables. They were all good so my next step was the check the shifter itself. What I found when I took the shifter apart was a bent piece within the shifter itself. It was the piece that attaches to the cable that hooks directly to the gearshift on the tranny. The part of this piece that actually gets pulled by the shift lever was bent back. It feels like a weak flimsy piece. I can get pics later if you are unclear to what part I am talking about.

I bent the piece back and will see how this works. If I find that it bends again I will design a new stronger piece to get machined.

BTW this is my first quad. I've ridden street bikes for a number of years. This thing is FAST and it handles great in the snow in 4WD.
