Suzuki LT230 Axle
Well, I'm getting the bikes ready for the '09 season and I decided to go +2" on the rear of the 230. No, I didnt use cheep spacers or offset wheels, but I ended up getting a used LT250R axle which, fits PERFECTLY, and is +2". Just thought I should throw that out there since 230's are NARROW, and durablue axles are EXPENSIVE. I ended up paying $80 in total, since I decided to get new bearings and seals while I was at it (always a good idea).
Just make sure that if you get one, it needs to be for an 85-86 250r. They are the same spline pattern (24) as the 230. Later years are 26 spline (and also use 5 bolt hubs) and wont fit the 230 without different hubs.
Hope This Helps

well i have an '86, which uses the round housing, but im 99% sure that the 87 and 88 230's with the other style carrier use the same axle.
but u still might wanna verify some other way.
in the ebay auction that i got it from, it said 85-87 lt250r's. so that would mean that it fits the round housing on the 85's and 86's (identical to the early 230's) AND the "square" housing (much like a z400's) too, on the 87. and then he said that later year axles are interchangeable, but the have 26 wheel splines instead of 24. so, that sort of goes to show that suzuki likes to keep axles the same between different carriers, but it doesnt completley prove it.
