Default Massive oil leak at drive shaft

I've got a massive oil leak on my 1990 LT-4WDL Quad where the front drive shaft exits the engine. I've talked with the local mechanic and he said it was a seal around the shaft inside the engine. He indicated the new seal would have to be glued in place, otherwise the seal would rotate and leak again. He wants over $300 to do it, so I figure the only way it will get fixed is if I do it.

Has anyone ever done this repair? How difficult is it? What kind of adhesive should I use? Should I stand the machine on its end to get at the area easy and to insure no oil gets on the adhesive? Any special tools required?

Thanks to all!

ive serviced several atvs in my day and have never heard of a seal that you glue in. these seals usually go in with an interference fit and that should be good enough

Dealing with the same issue on my 95, finnally got sick of it leaking all over my garage so I started by getting the seal, then I dove head first into it. It has so far been a great challenge. I removed part of the u-joint. Skid plate, and flex couple at the front diff, now I'm fighting with the yoke nut.

I just replaced mine on my 2000 quadrunner. Removed the skid plate, disconnected the u-joint, removed the nut on the yoke then pulled the yoke and replaced the seal. I sprayed the nut with pb blaster and let it set for a couple of days. I broke free with a breaker bar.

Well I got the nut off, a long breaker bar, and a bunch of extensions. And my fancy wife holding the quad in place. After that the seal came out and the new went back in and I was rideing 45 minutes later.
