Those models made until august 85 were the 1400ml ones. Kinda rare I think.

If it bored to a 250, its probably on its last overbore. You may have to resleeve. If you have to resleeve, you should consider a big bore kit.

Are you going to ride it all summer with it smoking or try to fix it before summer starts?

the last one is my favorait. i put a single warrior light on the handelbars, so its a cyclopse now. new plastics new tires, front right has a bent rim though.

mine smokes when its cold, but when its warm only a small amount at high rpms. im thinking its just valve guides, does this sound right or should i have it rebored as well?

You could just ride them until they smoke realy bad, then worry about it. I'm sure they both need valve seals. When you take them apart, there will be a puddle of oil on top of the piston. I've seen that a few times now.

I have an extra head light off my 87 if you want it.

im not overly knoledgable on overbores and such, but i think your right and it will need resleeved. i have several options avalibal.

option#1, how much would an bigbore kit run for this engine? and if in the future it needs rebuilt could the big bore kit be bored?

option#2, ride this one that smokes a little for a while and have my secone engine off my parts bike rebuilt...but i am not sure if that engine has been bored out ether. the bikes did come with anew in box 66mm weisco piston kit, but i could not use that on an engine thats already been overbored

parts engine has been setting for over a year with little oil in it, but does turn over freely. no idea if it runs, but with its age i think a rebuild would be the best thing to do.

ether way something is going to get rebuilt, so im makeing a list; piston/rings, valve guides, crank bearing mabe?, gasket kit.

o, and UGLY88 thank you for the offer but i do have an origional set of handelbars andheadlight. may put them on in the future

your advice?

The big bore kit is about $350. You have to send your cylinder in and they clean it up, bore out the old sleeve a bit at a time until its gone, press in a new sleeve, I guess they hone it to the right size too (not sure), then send it back to you with a new piston, rings, and head gasket. If you get the 258cc kit, you can go to the 265cc piston when you need to. After that, you'll need to resleeve and start over.

It costs about $250 to do a bore job anyway, so what's another $100???? The problem is these kits are getting used up and they don't make them anymore (at least wiseco don't make the pistons anymore - not sure is the sleeves are still made).

The 66mm piston is a stock-size piston and is pretty much worthless.

I'm in the camp that likes to check the rod for excessive wear. If the bearings are worn too much, the piston will flop all over in the bore and, or course, wear it out fast. Some guys either don't know or don't care and have had pretty good luck with that. Others haven't:

Here's a guy's engine after he put a brand new 260 kit in. He only got to ride it a couple hours and BOOM!

This set is another guy I met here on the forums. His rod broke the same week. Kinda scary huh?

Its a big job putting new rod bearings in.
