Default LT250R Head Gasket

Well, I've finaly got my 1986 LT250R back together for the 2009 season, with all new gaskets and all that nice stuff and oh look, I'm getting coolant out from around the head, just great!

I've got a brand new gasket, not warped mating surfaces, good even torque on the studs, and even some super-aviation-grade hi-temp, hi-pressure, gasoline safe permatex gasket goo on there too (but not too much, I HOPE).

I was just wondering if there were any tricks to getting these things to seal. My last one was fine, not a single problem.

I guess while I'm at it, what is the specified torque for those head studs?

And also, if I did put too much of that gasket goo on, and its restricting flow, is there an easy way to tell if the bike is overheating? (Its my first liquid cooled 2 stroke) I dont have one of those fancy inline coolers or temp gauges, YET.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Austin

anyone?

think i should try and run it for a bit and try to re-torque the head studs?

If there was any gunk, matter, corrosion, etc. on the threads of the head studs you will get a false torque reading. Just a thought.

Oherwise, I'd bet on a warped head. I know you said no, but......

the problem is that you put goop on the head gasket. get a new suzuki head gasket put a little goop on the threads. put a little stop leak in the coolant ( recomends it in the manual) torque to 19-21.5 lbs. in sequence. front left, back right, right middle , left middle, back left, front right.
heat cycle then retorque. this should cure your problem.
