HELP!!
I trail ride and ride open fields, I like to pop wheelies, and race with friends sometimes. I have a modded 400ex right now and I want to get a 450 or 500. Which one should I get?

 

dont get that 500 what ever u do. its a "ok" bike that was made for very few years and is hard to find parts for a good price . if i was u it would be the ltr450 or the yfz450. i like the efi of the ltr better myself

 

I say If your a Big guy and your just doing trail riding get the Pred/Outlaw 500 they come with the best plused out suspension for the whoops, plus wild power It's still a KTM followed by a Diffrent brand name. But really for the same kind of money You should get a Raptor 700 best looking quad, not as plushed as the Pred/Outlaw. Now if you are slim guy go for the LTR450 fuel injection is lovely, and it's Pretty darn fast. YFZ have bottom bolt problems friend are at odds with it. Mind you he has 06 YFZ. If I get another bike It would Be a Honda TRX 450r, they last for ever, and parts are abundents.

 

not 100% on this but pretty dam sure that 500 was not a ktm motor. im pretty sure its a fugi motor.

 

It indeed was a fugi. I don't think they make a preditor now for the new 525/450's. The daughter raced a 450 Polaris last year and it seemed like a good machine.
TRX~ mighty fine quad, dependable, and like mentioned parts readilly available.
LTR~ dam near as good as the Honda in reliability but has a wider stance and better shocks in stock form.
YFZ~ I have no boat, don't need an anchor.

Save you money and get PEP shocks (Id bet you have stock shocks,right?) for your 400. It's a fine machine. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

i say go with a 450. i dont have any experience with the 500 so you'd have get that info from someone else. i have an 08 ltr450 and i love it. i ride pretty much the same terrain you said but i'll be honest it can be a pain in the *** in the woods. if your worried about ground clearance the slap some 20" and 21" tires on it and youll be good. mines been reliable and i have had no problems with it so far. it can be a pain to work on cuz of all the extra efi and stuff on the motor. If you ride alot of woods or tree lined trails then i would say either the yfz450 or maybe the ds450. the honda is also a great bike i just have not had good luck with hondas but my friends has been to hell and back and held up well. it is just preference. go set on some at a shop or go to some local ride spots and see if you can get a ride on someones there. i feel they are all great bikes and dependability is based a large majority on how you care for it. but i wouldnt trade my ltr450 for anything. just my opinion and again get some test rides first. dont get a quad based on what you read. find what fits you and ride like hell.
