230 stator plate cover
#1
i threw the chain on my 1986 230 quadsport and cracked the stator plate cover. does anybody have one or know where i can get one. i've been told that this is a problem on these quads and they all do it. does anybody know a fix to keep this from happening again. appreciate any input

The only thing to do is to check for swingarm and rear axle bearings being out. Make sure the chain is kept tight. If you run the swingarm without barings for to long you'll end up replacing the swingarm like i had to. Get a slightly curved piece of metal and bend it or cut it and weld it to make it fit the 2 bolts holding on the sidecase nearest the chain and put it on there. Next time the chain wants to come off it will hit this.

thanks for the info, but i had put in new axle bearings the day before and the swingarm bearings were fine. i think i didnt tighten the chain enough when i put it back together, the plates 100 dollars at the dealer so i'm hopeing i'll find a used one on the web. have you ever ridden a 230 with the 273 big bore kit? if so does it make a big difference? how about your dg pipe, did that help performance a lot? i think thats going to be my next bolt on and some rear turf tamers. later

i threw my chain off in 4th gear and luckily just scratched up my new stator cover. i had another one but already sold it. i think they reason why the 230s throw the chain alot is because they are old and if they havent been kept up on maintenence, they break. id go with a white brothers mega alloy pipe over DG. i got a new flat side carb for my quadsport but didnt get the top end of the motor back together yet to ride it. i was gonna get new rims, plastics and a bunch of other stuff on my quadsport but i decided to get a new quad instead. i paid $450 for my quadsport when i bought it. little did i know that i would have almost $2500 into it a little more then a year and a half later
