suzuki eiger wont rev after water ride
#1
Ok, so, I got brave and went in deeper than I thought. Almost all the way through and the motor starts to puke out. Started back up and idled, but wont rev. We idled it out of the water no problem. Limped it back to the garage. Cleaned the carb. Airbox only had about 1/2 inch of water in the bottom, below the filter level, not bad. Carb was clean no gunk, cleaned it anyways. PITA to get out of there. Put it back together, still same thing. Now, one thing I noticed but couldn't see where it went, there is a vaccum tube on the top left of the carb, it does suck air, short about 6 inches long, where on earth does this hook up to? It can just sit there open sucking air, so it has to be the issue with the machine. Any help appreciated. The machine idles beautifully, so I am thinking this vaccum line came off somehow?
Thanks

07 Eiger 4x4 fully auto. I dont have a manual, so couldnt look it up. I took it to the dealer as I leave for a trip on Wednesday. It is driving me nuts as you can imagine. Would that cause it to fall on its face when you open the throttle? I havent worked much with these vacuum carbs. Not too crazy about them. Slow throttle response compared to a standard round or flatslide mikuni carb. I didnt have a spare plug with me, just bought the machine from the dealer, used, so I didnt try that. Oil is clean, no water, no water coming out of the pipe, doesnt appear to be plugged, exhaust flows fine. Just dies when opening throttle. I had just installed the winch and ran the cables along that side of the chassis. Wondering if I had already pulled that line almost off and then the water moved it the rest of the way off? Or, it is unrelated.

I have an 03, so assuming their setup is similar it would very much affect throttle and revving. Its basically letting all the vacuum escape that would be opening up the "slide" before the throttle. It has a big influence on fuel and air beyond idle.

You wouldnt by any chance have a pic or manual with a pic of where that goes do you? I would feel really stupid if the dealer says, yep, plugged this thingy in and now it works great. It has to go somewhere to work the vacuum actuator as you said, just not sure where. Is there a second nozzle on the petcock on the tank?
Thanks a mill.

Thier should be two outlets on the petcock at the bottom of the tank, one larger hose going to the fuel bowl and the smaller hose goes from the petcock to the top of the carb, at least thats how it is on my 03. Dont have any pics just make sure you have both hoses connected to the petcock and if that is the case you might have a different style carb than my older one. try blocking off the hose with a bolt and see how it revs if all else fails.

Yep, that was what it was. Apparantly when I wired my winch, I must have almost pulled that off and it just came off at the time I was in the water, coincidence. The carb was clean and free of water. That vacuum line does go the petcock. It is part of the fuel pump flow as the pump is in the tank, not just your standard gravity flow system.
Ordered a manual this time. Dont want to have to pay someone $50 to put a hose back on again. Bike runs like it should now. THanks for all the help.

You may have overlooked that there might still be water in the carb bowl.
If you haven't already done so, turn the fuel off at the gas tank (you drained it too right?) and then open the bowl drain screw to where the fuel runs out of the hose connected to the bottom of the bowl. Close the screw, add some fuel system/carb cleaner to the gas tank, turn the fuel back on at the tank, and then ride it, rough running or not, until you have passed the water out of the fuel system

Yep, cleaned carb out thoroughly. THe main issue was the vaccum line to the petcock. I guess these have a fuel pump in the tank and that is why it wouldnt run above idle. Took the bike to Canada. We got water in the clutch. Great thing about these is that there is a drain plug on the bottom of the clutch housing to drain the clutch. Great design by Suzuki. NOt crazy about how low and big the intake for the clutch cooling is, but as long as you dont suck water in there, you are fine. Nice bike overall.
Has anyone put on an aftermarket exhaust? Is it worth the money?

That happened to my '07 LT-A400F Eiger, when I washed it.
I pulled the vacuum line up higher and drained it and the carb.
I want to get a check valve for it, to prevent it happening again.
It shouldn't be that easy to get water in it.
