Default Looking for info on 08 KQ400FS or other general suzuki info.

Looking really hard at purchasing the FS400 4x4 version of this bike in camo. I've never owned anything suzuki and I'm just looking to see what anyone can tell me about this bike in particular or any other suzuki for that matter. I know suzuki has been around for many years and should be able to build a decent ATV. I've only found one thing in particular that concerns me so far and that is all the posts about dust getting by the air filter on some model suzukis and damaging the engine. Please tell me they have this problem corrected already because I can't see throwing my money away on a bike thats gonna start smoking in a couple years and need to be rebuilt. All I plan on using it for is hunting, pulling a small harrow, pulling a blade to fix the driveway now and then and just joy riding with the kids.

When the KQ700 came out, it had a paper filter - that's the dust problem you have read about.

The KQ400 has an oiled foam filter, you will not have a dust problem with it. This is one of the most reliable quads out there. The KQ400 is an Eiger 400 - the same model has been out since 2002. The Eiger / KQ400 is sporty for is class. For several years it always won shootouts with other 400cc class quads. Even after being in production for seven years, about the only quad in this class that gives you the same "bang for the buck" as the KQ400 is the Honda Rancher.

If you want a good, reliable, hard working but fun quad, you've made a good choice.

You can also get a nice Uni filter for $20, which filters great. The KQ 400 has been around for years as the Eiger. Its a good relatively simple powerful quad. I have used mine for many years for plowing, which it does great at. It does real well with pulling duties because of the solid axle. I have towed a pop up camper with mine, with no problems.

Definetly recommended.

Thanks for the replies. I purchased it and WOW!, I am very impressed with it. Very comfortable ride, plenty of power, and the 4 wheel drive is awesome. I have just a couple questions about break in. First is that the tranny is a little hard to shift like it needs to be adjusted some which I'm sure is done during the first service, and I hear extremely light valve flutter also, at idle which I also assume is to let them seat better and then be adjusted during first service. Other than that, I'm extremely happy with it. Also, I ordered the winch plate for it and was wondering if any cheaper winches will fit on it such as the camo version from harbor freight or maybe something else that isn't so expensive. I can't see spending 300-400 bucks on a winch that I will very seldom use.

Hey i have the kingquad 400fs model 2008 and weve never had a problem with it. almost 1700km in just a couple months we put on it. We got the suzuki winch plate for it and drilled two extra holes to install our 2000lb superwinch( Only cost like 70 dollars or something like that). The kingquad doesnt get stuck very much weve only gotten stuck once and that was yesterday so we got to test out our new winch and it pulled us out just fine. Would also like to mention that after 1000 km and it gets really worked in, it gains a lot of power and speed. Not that it didnt have any to begin with, but it does get a lot better.

Thanks for the info KingQuad400. Your right about it having plenty of power when new. I have only been riding it up to half throttle so far around my property being sure to use all gears and 4 wheel drive High and low like the dealer suggested. I can only imagine what full throttle would be like now, much less after 400-500 miles........it's powerful to me already. I plan to go riding this Saturday all day at our hunting lease so I can do some short bursts with a little more throttle so maybe it will help seat the rings a little better. I should get the winch plate this Wednesday afternoon and I will have it in my hands to see what kind of winch I can make work on it. I don't want to spend alot of money on one because I won't be usin it for a plow or anything, just pulling myself out if I ever get stuck so a high dollar winch is out of the question for me. I'll actually probably use it more to recover my son's recon when he gets it stuck.

I finally made the 100 mile break in point and had it serviced last week. Took it up to our hunting lease this past weekend and put it through it's paces and it never missed a beat! I only had one complaint and it was remedied easily. My wife got stuck on her recon and when I tried to push her out, the rear rack on the recon was lined up right in the area of my king quad where the headlights are so I couldn't push her out. Stopped by the bike shop today and ordered the headlight guard so I don't have to worry about that problem anymore! (I didn't much care for climbing off into 2 feet of the slimiest, smelliest muck I've ever seen to get her winch cable out and attach it to pull her out.) Of course she thought it was hilarious! But again, I was very impressed with the new quad. I can see getting many years of enjoyment out of it for sure.

We have over 2000km in about 7 months. I finally got a chance to open it up when my dad wasnt on back and i got it up to 85kmph and i wasnt even at full throttle. Make sure you dont stay in the same gear a lot when working it in and shift a lot between each gear so they have a chance to heat up and cool down( thus working them in ). Don't try and follow the no going beyond half throttle but also dont go full throttle either . just ride it like you normally would and it should break in easily. Well thats how ours did anyways.
