Default Just rebuilt LT160 carb - now it's worse - Help

Rebuilt carb with a nice Shindy carb kit (very nice quality). However it runs substantially worse than before the rebuild.

This is what we did. Removed all components- compared to new kit (all compatible), previous low speed jet was clogged ,flushed all passages with carb cleaner 3x's, replaced all parts, set main jet needle at middle clip position (same as previous), didn't have the specs for the float height -so left as previous. and reassembled to quad.

Comparison
Idle: Previous would start in about 3 turnovers and idle smooth - now difficult to start and keep running until after 2 minutes of warming up
Medium rpm: runs but sputters and when holding throttle position the rpm changes oh about +- 15% rpm
High rpm - can really tell a difference

We originally rebuilt this because it seemed the engine was runnig hot, thought it ran good, started right away, idled smooth, i suspected it was running lean causing excessive heat (engine would smell hot after 20 minutes of moderate riding).

Any thoughts on where to go with this. I rebuild a honda TRX 125 carb the same day with a Shindy kit and it purrs like a kitten and runs flawlessly.

Help.

Thanks Phillip.
