1. I did the test several times with the same results, but will do it again tomorrow in case I was hallucinating during the test.
2. Okay... gotcha!
3. I'll try to do that in the morning.
4. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! ROTFLAMO!!! I spit coffee all over when I read this one! OMG, that was toooooo funny! LMAO!
Thanks for the laughs tonight Ken.... I needed that!

5. Check the loose pin that you found before.
6. Don't short the test leads to ground when measuring voltage.
7. Crown Royal works better than coffee. (and is easier to clean up)
8. I gotta go Dexter is on!

Well this is what I would do:
1. Redo the test to ensure that it was done properly. Black/yellow to Green/white on the harness side of the CDI connector.
2. Try to isolate the problem to the coil or wiring. In other words measure at the connector closest to the coil.
3. Carefully put test leads (don't touch them together, you could do one lead on each side of the connector) on pins (of wires listed above) at the CDI connector (with it plugged in) and measure voltage (AC) during cranking,(start/no start situations) and running. Record data.
4. Check in the green book and see if there is a spec for this voltage.

1. got infinity again
2. tested at the connjector right after the magneto/stator/coil
3. It actually started this morning.... I got 11.8 to 12.6 cranking (ac volts)
4. The green book isn't here yet! (figures, it was mailed via USPS)
The ATV started for the test (#4) and now won't start again. Also, now, on top of everything else, I see that my right front CV boot has torn! GGGGrrrrrrr!!!!!!
Jackie (lighting that match!!!!!!)
14.5 running (ac volts)

1. got infinity again
2. tested at the connector right after the magneto/stator/coil
* And the reading was?
3. It actually started this morning.... I got 11.8 to 12.6 cranking (ac volts)
* FYI PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO YOUR METER DISPLAY, if it says 12 mV you have .012 volts, not 12 volts.
* Do you still get this in a no start condition?

Ken, I got infinity OL @ the connector closest to the magneto.
When I did the voltage test, the meter showed all zeros with no decimal points. I saw no mV in the display. How should the display read? It is auto ranging, but you can change the range. (Should it be 0.00, 0.0, etc?)
I didn't get the cranking voltage when I initially did this test, because the bike immediately started. I allowed the quad to warm up (turn the choke off) to get it down to idle. The voltage was much higher when it was idling fast. I turned the machine off, pulled the plug wire off to get the cranking voltage.
Does that make sense?

That's more voltage than I was expecting though.
But, now that it won't start, you get infinity ohms and 0 volts on tests 1 and 3 ????

I hooked up the probes to the blk/yellow & green/white at the CDI. I made sure the meter was not in mV. The bike would not start, just cranked, and I got 4.0 AC volts.
