how about the main needle jet (the one that screws into the carb) should that be set to something like all the way in and backed out two turns?

are you taliking about the little jet in the bottom of the bowl, or the actual brass piece that the needle goes into (metering needle, not the inlet needle)?

if your looking at the carb with it on the quad, its to the left of the idle screw.

im just asking basically what there is to adjust besides the idle screw and how I should go about it.

Im just going to take it apart again and let it soak over night

Hey, a little late on this post, but if you don't have a Suzuki dealer close by, Bike Bandit has the rubber pieces for $3.27. P/N 489951-001. I actually got one for my old 230.

Steve, you may also be interested in checking out the website in my signature. There's a lot of info on the 230S there, but I'm sure a lot of the 230E stuff will collaborate. A fellow ATV Connection member (bashr52) just completed a really nice carb tuning article too.

lt230sman, are the E and S the same carbs?

its gotta be the same, im looking at your website already and it looks exactly like mine to the T

edit: i take that back, it looks like you got a combustion releif lever on the carb? mine is on the head area...weird

oh, you mean the idle air bleed screw? (not the one that acts as a mechanical stop for the slide to regulate idle speed)

for starters, turn it out 2.5 turns

but while youre at it, let the carb soak for a bit, it cant hurt.

good luck!

just keep in mind with that screw, adjustments are opposite of the usual.

since it regulates air, not fuel, going IN RICHENS the mixture, and going OUT LEANS the mixture.

and that screw is only effective for adjustments from idle to 1/8 throttle.

Carb soaked in carb cleaner, sprayed it out with compressed air and put it back together with all new peices that came with the kit.

Same thing is happening.

Im screwing in the main idle screw and the little idle screw all the way in, then backing them off 2 full turns. Wont even start with the choke.

The quad will not even fire up that way, the main idle needs to be screwed all the way in and the choke needs to be on or it wont start.

Then it fires up, revs like the choke needs to be turned off, then as you take the choke off the thing dies. every single time.

well the idle speed adjustment shouldnt be 2 turns out. it should be so that theres about 1/16" to 1/8" slide opening at idle.

only the idle mixture screw should be 2 turns out, and thats just an initial setting. try only 1 turn out and see if that helps. if the pilot circuit is still lean and it wont start, youre probably going to need to give it some good throttle while cranking. and keep in mind the choke isnt effective unless the throttle's closed and providing high engine vacuum to the pilot circuit.

once you have it sort-of running, in all honesty, the best way to get it tuned in is just to "play around" with the screws and see what happens, no joke haha!

good luck
