Default LT 230 Quad Runner / Quad Sport problems!

I have two twin 92 LT230E's (very similar to the quadsport model but have electric start) and both recently have started to have carb problems. We bought these new in 93' and we have NEVER had a problem with either whatsoever.

One has a stuck float and dumps gas and one will no longer run for more than a few seconds without stalling.

Sooo I decided to do some work on them and replaced the oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, brakes, and bought 2 carb rebuild kits.

Well im not worried about the stuck float one because that will be simple to take care of, however the one that wouldnt run at all Im confused about.

I rebuilt the carb with all new jets, needles, gaskets, etc. and now it runs but very very screwed up. It will only start with the thumb choke on full, and the idle screw turned all the way clockwise. When the engine starts to race, I back off the choke and turn the idle screw couter-clockwise to get it to idle, and it will then idle and stall.

I have two videos of it running on youtube if you would like to take a look!

thanks in advance!
Steve

Both quads are only used to do work at my cabin and arent ragged on or beat on so there should be no reason its an engine problem...

Hey welcome to the forums!

Theres definatley some sort of *partially* clogged jet/nozzle/emulsion tube/orfice/passage/whatever you wanna call it.

I'd disassemble down to the body and let the carb soak ovenight in berryman's carb cleaner (the liquid death in the metal tank lol). and then blow it out with compressed air real good, reassemble, and see what happens.

thanks for the response!

Would it run like this even with new jets?

the kit I bought included pretty much new everything minus the float which was in OK condition.

it sounds like its running really lean (hence the racing speed)

and since you have new jets, that would lead me to believe that some other passage leading up to or coming from one of the jets is partially clogged.

good luck
