First time user (Question on break in before plowing
#1
Hi guys
I bought a new Suzuki LT 400 , 4 wheel drive last week with a plow package.
I bought this to only plow.
Will it be okay to use the plow without the 10 hours of break in period ?
I really won't be riding it unless I'm plowing snow.
Thanks

Although that is not ideal because for optimal break in, you want to have a varied throttle as much as possible during break in. The one thing most engine builders will tell you is not to break it in while running at "steady" throttle.
Plowing will be a lot of on/off of the throttle, so while not ideal it probably will be OK. I would probably "blip" the throttle a few times each time between forward and reverse while plowing. That will get the juices flowing a bit more.
It would also be wise to get that thick heavy break in oil out of there before winter. The break in oil is very thick, I'm not sure exactly the viscosity but it is very thick stuff. Not ideal for cold starting conditions.
I would personally try and ride it as much as possible to break it in. Even if you are just sight seeing or something. I would get it out there and get it good an hot a few times while keeping that throttle varied as much as possible. Even if you cannot get to the "10" hours you can probably get close before you know it. Just enough to get that break in oil out and some real oil in would be your best bet.
