eiger 400 drive train roar
#1
I have had a 2005 eiger 400 manual shift for 2 years now. I bought it used with 293 miles on it, it now has 710 miles. From the first day I bought it it has somewhat of a roar in the drive train once you get in 3rd gear or beyond. It sounds like it is comming from the trans or rear end. I have never found any metal shavings in either. I have talked to 2 dealers and both have advised me that this roar is inherent to the eiger 400 manual shifts. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, has anyone found a cure ? It drives me nuts! Love the machine except for that. Also, is everyone elses filter airbox noisey with a deep throttling sound on aceleration ? Thanks for any insite or help

Yup. Mine does it too. It's done it since it was new and has not caused any problems. I read somewhere once that it has to do with the bevel on the gears, as if they are mor square, they'll make some noise. I have a king quad 300 that makes lots of noise too. I would just ride it.

I aprecaite you info and it puts me to somewhat of a rest. Its never gave any problem. I really put it through its paces here in the mountains of east tennessee, It is a mudhole monster and goes through many places others will not. I cant count the times I have pulled bigger machines, with better tires out of mudholes, only to turn around and go right through them on half wore out dunlop tires. Its a tough 4 wheeler. Again thanks.

BTW, we ride Royal Blue all the time. Really like all the trails in the #20's up in the northeast section.

Always made a noise but no problems. Use Redline in the diffs and change every 3000.

I have a 2004 or 5 I forget. It has ALWAYS had the noise and I just got used to it. Sounds like the old trucks when they are in lower gears. I've only about 1700 miles on mine but I know what you are worried about. So far I have not had a problem.
