Suzuki lt125
#1
Hi guys I am looking at buying a 1986 suzuki lt125, I can get it real cheap because the previous owner put in a brand new auto clutch and ever since then he said it makes a weird grinding noise. because of that he has not let his kids drive it since. A buddy of mine said this could have happened because he didnt put oil in the tranny after changing the automatic clutch, is this true. If not what do you think is wrong with it. Thanks

Have you heard the sound yourself? A weird grinding sound may be metallic (usually not good) or something rubbing (may be just an adjustment needed). Is it making the sound when under motion, or just with the engine running and sitting still?
If it's making the sound with it sitting still, it's most likely just an adjustment. Take the cover off and make sure all the nuts and bolts are tightened properly.
If it's making the sound when under motion, it's most likely the tranny, in which case it can get expensive.
I would think that if he ran it for a while without the oil, it would cause some damage, but not to the point of a grinding sound. Mostly seals and any plastic parts that can get damaged due to heat. Most of your internal gears that mesh are metal.
