06 QuadSport LT-Z400 Start Button
#1
Hi guys,
My brother has 2 of these. My Dad took the batteries out over the winter and made sure they stayed charged. Put them back in today, and go to start them, and nothing. On BOTH of them! Lights/electrical works. Is there some type of override switch or something that needs to be flipped when the battery is installed? No problems with them in the past, and as I said, it is the same for BOTH, so it isn't the batteries. The usual was checked; switch set to RUN, clutch in, push START, nothing.... And of course, there is no pull/kick start.
TIA for any help.

Well, what do you mean by "nothing?" Does the starter engage at all? DO they turn over but not fire?
I think the Zuks have a prime setting on the petcock, did you try using that first?
Do you have fresh gas?
Did you check the airfilter/intake in case critters made a nest in there over the winter?
How were the batteries maintained? A true battery tender can stay on all winter, but a charger that does over 2 amps and/or doesn't automatically shut off when the batt is full will fry them. I have seen enough power to turn on the idiot lights/etc but not nearly enough to crank the machine.

I mean it does absolutely nothing, like the button is not working. The starter does not engage at all.
The battery is perfectly fine; the headlights are nice and bright, just no cranking.
I saw a schematic that showed there is an inline fuse between the start button and the solenoid. Any idea where it is actually located? I would like to check it, but cannot find it. We were able to jump the solenoid, and the starter engaged, so it sounds like it might be this fuse.

Ok, never mind, my Dad is a dummy. He is a 4 hour drive away trying to start these. He thought the parking brake being on (which of course is operated by the clutch lever) would count as the clutch being pulled in. lol Both bikes are operational now. Thanks.
