I have an 86 LTF230 that blue smokes alot, but only when you first start it up when cold. After about 20 seconds or so of idling, it clears up, and I cant see any smoke while driving, even under load or decelerating. I dont think it is rings, because rings usually smoke more as the engine warms up. This one acts live valve stem seals leaking. Is this heard of on these motors? I have never heard of an ATV with leaking valve stem seals, but see and hear of lots with worn rings burning oil.
The longer I let it sit, the more it smokes when I start it up. If it sits for an hour, there is a little smoke, but if I let it sit all week, you can hardly see me for a minute.

Valve guides and or seals. Gotta admit, ive never seen one do it but its not impossible. Sounds like you need to rebuild the top end. Pull the head and check the valves, valve seats and guides for wear and swap out the valve stem seals. Great time to check for cylinder wear while your in there.
Pick up a service manuel first though.
