Exclamation Plastic in Crankcase

Hi, Im new to the website

I was changing the oil in my suzuki eiger 400 and dropped a piece of plastic into the oil fill hole. (It was a piece of the funnel actually, an adapter fitting to make it fit into a smaller hole.) Just looking for some advice on what the best way to get it out would be. Tried fishing for it with a piece of wire. Does anybody know how much damage it will do if i leave it?

Thanks
Darwin

Default Don't say oh well

Either keep fishing with a strand of wire or pop the side cover off but by all means do not leave it in there. It will surely tear something up. Not sure what but I wouldn't want to roll the dice on it. It would most likely grind into smaller peices and then clog up the oiling holes starving the top end seizing the cam or valves. The cost of a gasket and an hour or two would save you alot down the road.

Do you think I will be able to accese it by removing that clutch cover? Or will i have to remove the engine and split the crank?

You will not have to remove clutch cover or engine. You will need to drain oil, remove pull rope, remove Lh side cover of engine (per parts brake down called a magneto cover). Then the plactic piece should be right there.

Will I need a new gasket if i remove the magneto side of the engine? And this will give me accesse to the crank case? Just wondering cause The oil fill where i dropped it in is on the other side, I havent taken one of these apart before.

Thank you

Darwin, I guess I am wrong. I even checked in a online parts brake down for your year. It showed the oil stick on the left side, That is where I fill both my Eigers 02 & 04. If it is on other side like you stated what I told you will not work.

Sorry Scott, I failed to mention it is a manual transmission, i assume yours is an automatic? I looked at the parts diagram once you pointed that out and you are correct. It looks like on the automatic i can each it on that side but the manual is on the opposite side. Thanks for your advice though. Wish myn was an automatic look easier.
