2001 Quadrunner

I have the opportunity to buy a 2001 LTF1 250 Quadrunner with a busted rear axle. This is actually what I'm looking for; a broken down but salvageable 4 wheeler that I can get a deal on, fix, and ride. A guy I know owns it, and he says it needs a rear axle ($250 from suzuki) with a built in CV joint. I expect it'll also need some bearings. I haven't gotten a chance to look at it yet.
If anybody that has one can answer these questions:
First, it's just one axle, right? If it needs two $250 axles I'm not interested.
Second, what bearings are involved? I imagine they're hosed too. Once again, gives me an idea of what I'll be spending on parts.
Third, this is an integrated engine, transmission, and rear end. If the axle shredded and they limped it home, do I have to worry about gear shavings in the camshaft, valves, crankcase, etc? That would probably make my decision right there.
Last, any other known problems with this quad?
I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into before I go look, cause I always like to make a cash deal on the spot, first time I look, and take as much cash as I'm willing to spend. Saves buyer's remorse later, and keeps deals from getting away.
Thanks, y'all.
