86' 230 rebuild
Here it is... My 86' 230 Quadsport. I finally came to the decision to rebuild it after I was let down by it yesterday when I went riding back on some fire breaks a few hours before a massive storm hit (I didn't realize we were under a thunderstorm warning). Needless to say, it choked, I got soaked, and ended up running for an hour and a half back to my house to get my truck.
You can still see the sand all over it where I had to push it for about a quarter mile to an underpass so I could get it out of the rain.
You can't tell from this shot but the right rear tire is also flat. Probably a reason she decided to turn against me.
Please excuse the mess in my garage. Also, if there is a better place to start this thread on this site, please let me know. I plan on doing bits and pieces throughout the summer and plan on having it up and running again this fall (just in time for some good riding pics)

Holler at me if you need parts. I have the '86 utility version of this quad. I just bought a new one for my son and I and haven't decided whether to part it or sell it whole. It runs and took us all thru deer and turkey season, but it was just too cramped for my son and I both.
ETA: I just took a closer look at your pics. That's really the closest I've seen the sport version. It's amazing how different the sport and utility models are. Looks to me like the engine is about the only thing the same. LOL!

Well, I got bad news. The frame is cracked. I took a look at some old pictures and you can see the crack in them. I don't know how I didn't see it before but I guess when I started stripping it down, I started noticing all the little dings and dents. Never thought I'd find a crack though. Anyhow, I'm starting to make some phone calls to see if I can locate a frame but in the meantime, do you guys think I should get a new one or just get this one welded up and keep rollin it? The latter would probably be cheaper but we'll see after I do some callin. Also, I haven't even dug into the front of the quad yet so it's hard tellin whats up there. I do know that when I replaced the steering stem I didn't see anything that serious. What do you guys think? Here's some pics below.
Such a sad day........

That's weird. I live in middle TN, but drive to my office right up to Bowling Green every day. Actually in Franklin, KY, but about 3 more miles and I'm in BG.
We had reservations to Gulf Shores last week of Jun-first week of Jul, but will wind up going to the beach in NC or drive thru to go to SC, but we'll be taking wifey's mini van so the kids can watch TV. Had to change plans after the oil spill.

OK guys, sorry to keep you hangin. I also apologize for not taking more pics of the strip down of my quad. I promise to take more photos of the rebuild after I get some more funds. Like I said, its gonna be a summer project so it should be done or pretty close to done in about 3-4 months.
