Chaz, those picks bring back memories. I made the same mistake with reversing the slide once too. I may have to pick me up another 230 someday just for sentimental reasons.

himsa, that is why I said an INTAKE or gasket leak. You may have inadvertently cracked one of the carb boots or one may not be installed 100% correctly. For the record, stuck floats don't usually cause a high idle. No matter how much fuel is in the bowl, the motor can only get so much through the jets. After a certain level the overflow kicks in anyway and the carb will puke the excess on the ground. If the floats sit to low the machine may not start at all. The floats and bowl can be tricky to get all back together though, I suppose that could be the issue. Sometimes tapping on the float bowl with a screwdriver or what not will free the floats up .

Check your throttle cable, sounds like it's not letting your slide shut all the way. When the machine is off, open the throttle up all the way and then let it slam shut. You should be able to hear it clunk inside the carb. If you can't hear it clunk in the carb than your cable is routed wrong or your cable is set too tight. This is not letting your slide sit all the way down in your carb, making your idle adjustment useless.

A common cause of quitting after a while is coil windings going open circuit or shorting. Can you drown the coil with cold water after it quits and then try re-starting?
Usually the CDI will either go or not.

Default Pops and dies

I have a 1985 Suzuki lt 230 quadsport and it is very Frustrating because it Smokes, pops , bogges out and then it will not come back to live for about 20 minutes and sometimes not for the rest of the day. Let me know what you think the problem is. Thanks

It sounds to me like the float is not working right. This happen to me with my LT80 it would idle for about 20-30sec and would then shut off and not start again because it flooded itself. I just replaced the carb and installed a new one because i hate messing around with the float. Hope this helps
