boring and honing a lt230
#1
i have a 80s 230 and a friend of mine who ussaully knows his **** very well when it comes to motors and he said to me that i shuldnt really bore it or hone it just put it in a acid bath to clean it up but i have some pretty deep scores in the jug and im very limited on money so resleving isnt a option what is your oppinion on boring, honing, and acid baths

Agreed. If you have scratches it needs to be bored over and/or resleeved depending on spec.

i have a scratch thats about the thickness of a sheet of paper i dont ride it for performance and i will be selling it im only putting a new piston n rings to get rid of the smoke and i might as well do a piston if im doing rings will honing be enough to get rid of the scratch and if it doesnt take the scratch out all the way i know it will lower the compression but it had 150 comp b4 i took it apart will it still smoke

Might still smoke if it has a bad valve or the scratch is deep enough. Best to fix it right selling it or not. Actually, I think it is even more important to fix it right if you are selling.

im not trying to sell a piece of **** im just trying to get rid of the smoke my 250 is for the rough riding the 230 is just for a cruise around and can you tell if the valves are bad just by looking if so wat r the sign cuz my valves moove in and out when i put clamps on them and the seats are clean and smooth as well as the valves them self and if i hone it until the scratch is gone do i need to get over sized rings ad file them down
