91 lt250r help
#1
i bought a lt250r , the head was off but everything was there to put it together except for new piston.
I bought a new piston kit had the cylinder bored. had to go up to 69mm. got it all put back together.
I couldnt get it to start, it wouldnt even pop. so i checked the carb it was dirty so i cleaned it and still nothing cleaned it again and nothing.
So i had a extra carb from another bike, it was clean so i put it on and after a few kicks i got it started. it ran for about a minute or 2 , then it died. i forgot the choke on.
Since then i can not get it to start or even pop. i tried a new plug cleaned the carb again, checked the reeds, checked the flywheel key, its getting spark.
i am lost it has compression, when i checked it it was around 130 psi. i read thats not enough on other sites. they said it needed to be around 180 .
Any help or suggestion would be great . thanks JP

120 is enough for a two stroke. did you put the piston in correctly. facing the right direction. and if you pull the plug is anything on it? you may wanna check the left crank seal. if the plug has oil on it you may have a bad right crank seal. just a few things to start with

the plug seems to be dry, no oil or fuel on it.
yes thepiston is in correct. i am gonna pull the top end again this weekend and check the rings make sure they arn not stuck. it just seems like it doesnt have the compression to pull the fuel into the cylinder.
If all fails as soon as my new chain comes in i will try to pull start it.

Is it even getting any fuel then? Maybe there was just enough in the bottom of the one bowl to run it for a bit? You could always pull the plug, pour some premix in, and see if she fires. If so, you have a fuel flow problem somewhere.

OK guys here is a update, i pulled the cylinder this weekend. the top of the piston was covered with oil, so was the sides of the piston and cylinder walls.
I turned the crank by hand and noticed some oil on the crank as it made its round. So i suppose i have a bad crank seal, i ordered a seal kit.
I did notice when it was running it was surging up & down, prolly due to sucking air & oil into the crank case. Hopfully this will solve my problem.
