alright well it turns out this one is sold but i found another one for $500 and according to the seller the only thing wrong with it is it smokes while its running, any idea what could be the cause of this? if its not something relatively simple i was probably pass on that one

Smoking while running is the valve guides or rings going south, that motor will need a rebuild soon.

If you were near me, I have a nice 99 300ex, stock motor, with Supertrapp exhaust, modded air box, +1000 rpm cdi,400ex a arms and shocks, Raptor rear shock, full skids, just sitting in storage, son drives a 440ex now. Only problem with it is a slight bend in the axle from a big jump my son landed wrong, but I have a used Durablue adjustable axle to go in when i get my shop finished. It would be a nice quad for you to start on, electric start, reverse, got nerf bars, front bumper and grab bar, just a nice little package, poor thing just sits in storage all alone !! Where are you, maybe we could work something out ?? its a shame for a nice quad to sit.
