Default Blown piston metal shards in crank case...

last fall my 1987 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport blew a piston n broke a lifter. i got the new parts but i am not sure how to get the metal pieces out of the crankcase...do i need to bring the motor somewhere and have them split it and compress it together again or do you think that just flipping it upside down would be good enough to get them out? the ones i can see are small (about the pencil eraser size) but the hole in the piston head was about the size of a dollar coin if not bigger...so i am unsure if there are bigger pieces down in there somewhere. otherwise how much do you think it would cost to have a service place take care of everything for me?

if you take both side cover off the engine you can get probably all of it out of there with some carb cleaner and oil. if youre unsure about it though splitting the cases isnt that hard and you can do it at home. just be sure to take your time and note where you got everything

do i need to worry about any other parts or gear or such falling out of place or is everything pretty much solid? and by side covers you mean on the left and right sides where the timing chain connects and where the clutch cable is attached... correct?

If u split the cases stuff can easily fall out and scatter and yes those r the side covers

I would go with it's better to be safe then sorry in other words I would split the case if you don't fill comfortable doing it yourself pay the money and have it done this way you know all the pieces are cleaned out.
