I would do a leak down test and check the crank seals. Every thing your saying sounds like a vacum leak.

Thanks! High compression with a complete FMF exhaust system, I haven't even checked out the piston yet. Carb is a fresh rebuild.

I even took it for a nice joy ride, the powerband choked out kind of rather than revving up like it should. I had to slowly bring myself up to speed before I could wide open and get powerband going. So we are back to the cold weather being the issue???

"Air temperature—when the air temperature increases, the air density becomes lower. This will make the air-fuel mixture richer. You must select jet sizes with a lower number to compensate for the lower air density. When the barometric pressure decreases, the opposite effect occurs."

Question Help?

I can't take the mystery, I took the top end apart today. The head appears to be fine except for a few nicks:

The reeds look stock??

The only chips in the reeds are very small and on one blade/fin. Is this enough to change them?

The piston looks good! I think the guy threw a new one in it before he sold it to me, I translated 534M07100 to a Wiseco 71mm (1mm over bore) I only see a few spots on the sides that have vertical wear/scratches I should be fine with just new head gaskets:

The top has quite a bit of carbon build up on it, I removed it with a razor blade. I always run her at 32:1 sometimes around 30:1

Now what in the heck is going on with the jug here, either a new one was pushed in after a bore or the one in there now is splitting apart?

Can anyone explain what is going on, it really appears as if welds are coming undone or something bad is happening here:

I would clean up that piston before putting it back in and if there is a ring ridge in the cylinder, I wouldn't buy new rings or you will destroy the new rings if you where planning on it or not.

How so? I planned on a light surface clean because there are pieces of carbon stuck to the sides. I was not going to buy new rings or a piston, just throw it back together with new gaskets (I will be selling the machine this summer anyway) where do you see a ring ridge in the cylinder?

Just clean it up and make sure there are no deep grooves in it. You could also polish it:

I didn't say I saw a ring ridge, I said if there is one. Just make sure there isn't one is what I was trying to say.

Exclamation Opinions?

Oh okay thanks! I ran my fingernail around it and there are no scratches I can feel.

Here are some photos of the jug, I really don't want to replate it, how bad do you think it is?

Appears to be rounded around the exhaust port on one side, maybe somebody used a ball hone?

So since this is a 71mm (1mm over bore) the jug has been bored on a lath correct? Because I don't think it was done straight for whatever reason maybe one side was scored much worse than the other?
