LT250R Overhaul Project
So this the start of what is soon to become a longggggg thread. I would say this is a fine example of my impulsive buying. I bought this quad today for $900, I have always wanted an quadracer since I was 8 so **** it I bought it. Had a decent background story, BUT I bought this thing untested... did not hear it run (out of gas) did not run it though the gears or anything but mostly everything is here except the fender braces, grips, and upper nose. I took the best look at it I could during sunset discovered a small top weld on the swing arm, nothing TOO major. It has an FMF gold series fatty and a FMF powercore, also came with tons of spare engine parts!

LMAO yeah well thankfully there is no key and I am going to replace the kill switch with a tether pull switch. It will start right off the batt after being rebuilt but do you think it's worth what I paid for it the way I bought it untested?

So I filled it with some gas today and kicked it over it started in about 10 kicks. BUT, I had it idling warmed it up for about a min. then turned the choke off and ripped it down my street, got about a quarter of a mile down and it just started bogging out, I had to play with the throttle and that lasted 10 sec. until it just lost too much and bogged out. I had to push it back home, then I tried kicking it over several times and figuring out whats going on. It starts on choke, if I let it warm up with the choke on for longer then 30 sec. sometimes the throttle just goes crazy rev. high and I have to kill the engine. If you turn the choke OFF it just bogs down and stalls idling, you can give it some gas and all but this doesn't last long before the engine does that bogging even while playing with the throttle. I have two things in mind, either a bad coolant pump (I pray not) or it just got some **** sucked into the carb and needs time for it to settle to the bottom. Any thoughts?
This is the crack I spoke of on the top of the swing arm:
Then I found this surprise! Please tell me this is not a hole in the side of the engine block sealed with gasket sealer...

And I would have gladly bought it, this has a few after market parts and I have had a hard time finding one locally so I'm just guna save this one from hitting the junk yard in the future and keep it, build it up this winter! I hope someone chimes in with some diagnostic advice.

I checked the spare engine block right where the hole is on the block that's in the bike sealed with gasket sealer. The spare block has a weld in that spot, is this factory or is this a common problem with these blocks?
I had it running good today I even took it for a 20 min drive before it died again. It turns out I had put just enough gas in it to kick it over so I did not meet the reserve line. Ran on reserve so I filled the tank, but it still wouldn't idle. The only way I got it to idle was with the idle screw completely screwed in, and the air/fuel mixture screw 4-5 turns out. It can't be good, it stalled at the sand pits and I had to tow it home with a Warrior. It was dripping some gas when you kicked it out of the carb overflow, when I got home I removed the plug and it was a bit fouled but I have seen far worse in my old KX80. The plug would not spark though against the head, I hope I don't have an electrical problem. The plug would still spark even slightly moist with gas/oil right? Besides for that my leg kills! But the thing is as strong as a brick **** house when it's running, the rear just kicks right out you can get the thing sideways in sand like nothing and the front end lifts off the ground on pavement.
