My son currently races a Honda 07 400ex and we are upgrading to a LT450. While at Unadilla recently I noticed what I considered a semi-automatic clutch available for the 450 quads. Can you give me feedback; has anyone personally used one of these auto clutches? My son has completed about nine races now and I think a auto clutch of that type might assist him greatly. What brand do you recommend if any? Thanks Rob

 

Never used one but I've heard they work well. There was a used one for sale on a Z400 site and I thought about getting it for my wife.......she likes the clutch so it was a no.
If he's already racing with a clutch what do you think the benefit would be?

As far as I know...The rekluse isn't really a auto clutch but rather a slipper clutch.
You use your regular clutch normally but when you get into a situation that would normally need you to fan the clutch, it slips. Much safer!
I feel most anyone would benefit from it.
FYI: check out Hinson clutchs. I think Wayne made his own type of slipper clutch.

 

Agree with above I have the Suzuki LTR450 Quad Racer and the manual clutch is factory and is also set extremely high for racing. I barely pull back on my clutch handle ( I keep two fingers on the bar grip and under the clutch handle and the other two on the clutch handle) and I'm shifting the gears just fine and extremely smooth. I say if your son is using the manual clutch to save your money and have him stick with what he has..If it was all the bomb Suzuki would be running factory 450cc Quad Racers with that in them; however, they all come from the factory with the manual clutch most likely for a very good reason because the quad likes to jump its nose off the ground if you dump the clutch.
