problem with cam chain tension
I have a Suzuki lt250ef that I have just got running from being sat up for a long time. While I was test riding it, it jumped timing on me a quarter turn, which luckily it wasnt while the valves were down!. I reset the timing and noticed I have a little to much slack on the cam chain. My cam chain tension is all the way in, which is a self adjusting type of tensioner. When I install the tensioner it is leaving to much slack in the chain. When I push in with my finger about a 1/8 to a 1/4 inch more than the tensior it is fine with no slack on the sprocket. Before I throw any more money at this quad, I would like to know if it would be better to change first, the cam chain slide, tensioner, or chain. Which do you think would fail first. this is my first quad so any help would be appreciated.
