I have a 2000 King Quad 300 and I want to put bigger more aggressive tires on it. What can I put on that will not rob me of power. Also, what brand do you recommend, I do all around trail, mud, hardpack, snow, etc. type of riding

I just put a set of 24/25 inch vamps for mine just last week. Even though they are stock size the are a bit bigger and yes they robbed some top end. But they are awsume in the mud. I found my self not even using 4wd most of the time. Call Jim @ National tire and wheel he bent over backwards for me.

Well, those tires on Rob's, KQ 300, do look familiar to me... Looks pretty sweet Rob! Just a different color King but everything else is very similar. I haven't had the opertunity to ride on my new tires yet. It either gets too darn cold or I'm workin'.
You say the 589's work well without 4 wheel drive? I have got to try it in the mud, soon! Do your wheels still look new or did you spend a lot of time cleaning them? Talk to me!

Chuck,

I ended up gettin the Vamps and not the 589's. Everyone I called didnt have any in stock so I decided on the Vamps. I got a set of wheels too, so that when we go in the summer I can change back to the stock tires hence the Vamps will not be so good on hard pack. And I want a spare set of tires when we go out of town, it would really suck to be sitten the whole weekend due to a ripped side wall.

I just got done puttin 1/2 inch spacers on each corners last night. And its got an awsume stance now. Im really anting to get it out and see if its too stiff now. I had a little tire rub on the right front after the tire change. All i can figure is the spring might be a little week, but i ripped it all apart last night and its seem just fine. I wanted to get a bit more ground clearance anyways. More and more each day Im liking this machine.

Oh Boy! Did I make a mistake... Looked like 589's to me but they sure look agressive. What did you put on the front?

Robh,

Spacers? I did not know that there were any for the KQ300. Where did you get them and how much, if you don't mind me asking. What would this do for me. Right now I am thinking of the 589's but one or two sizes bigger if they will not rub.

Well the 589's do not come any sizes to fit an 11 inch wheel. So unless you have some custom made wheel for the fronts then the 589 is defently out for the front of the king. =( And that is from the horeses mouth @ Itp. Thats why i went to the vamps, i got them in stock sizes. And I did rub on the front so I made my own spacers that go in between the springs and the shocks. I made them out an old mud flap that I had found. Its 1/4 inch thick so I have 2 spacers at each corner. It took about 5 hours to remove all the wheels and springs, Disasemble the shock/springs, fabacate the spacers(with the help of my jig saw) and reassemble the shocks put them back on the bike and put the wheels on. Sounds harder then it really is, I only wish i had a better tool to colapse the springs a bit better. I work for the phone company and we have some awsume tie straps, you could pull a stuck quad out of the mud with them. I put about 8 to 10 on each spring and just kept tighting them till i got them where I needed them, it worked great.

how wide are your vamps in the front. i was wondering because i wanted to get 26x12 outlaws on the rear and 25x9 vamps on the front. i was wondering if i am going to have to make spacers as well. thanks.

Im not so sure if id be going to a lager tire on the king if I was you, I knoticed a power loss with the 25x12x12 for the rear and 24x9x11 on the front. The spacers i made wasnt for the wheels they are for the springs, ill be takin a couple of pics this weekend and put them on my link.

I was worried I would have a huge power loss when I put my 589's on my 300 4x4 Cat, which is basically the same drive train as the King. After riding it I found out I had worried for nothing. It pulled the 27" tires just fine. I lost a little top end like 3mph if that. I also noticed it did not have as much snap in high gear. Mid range and Low was the same . I was very happy I went with these tires.
