I found an LTR 450 on craigslist for $2700. According to the post it is in excellent condition and runs great. All is stock except for yoshi pipe and cherry bomb. Is this a good price if all is as described?

That seems like a fair price. Remember these engines need to be rebuilt fairly often. If it is at 50+ hours between rebuilds I would budget that into your purchase price. Blowing one up/melting one down gets spendy in a hurry on these hi perf 450s.

Is this a true statement? I am looking for a 450 but if it has to be rebuilt that often I dont want one. I have a 400 now that seems to want to run forever...

Depends on how you ride and maintain them, but yes, they really should be rebuilt that often. Buying used and I would want a fresh motor for piece of mind. Surely a few guys will be on here saying they have 100+ hours on their machine. Probably do, but when they let loose you go from $250.00 to rebuild them to 1k+ in a hurry, not counting labor...

It's a great price! And low enough to afford a new piston if need be. If it's not blowing smoke or clanging and banging, I'd run it.
Like mentioned, how you maintain it and how you ride it makes a difference (wot).
My daughter changed oil every race. A lil overboard for a common rider but you get the drift.

I put 50 Hours on a quad in a month. So I would be rebuilding once a month. I am very tough on one. Love the acceleration and the airborne feeling...
