Default Questions about LT 250S

Hello all,

My search has paid off - I finally have a 250 ('89) to go with my '87 230.

First, can someone tell me if the 250 has the same problem with the chain coming off as the 230 does? I have searched but can't find any threads on this.

Second, can anyone make any recomendations about aftermarket exhaust, aluminum front bumpers, rear racks and skid plates?

Thanks!

Trailrider,

I have been able to track down some performance parts - the basic stuff.

Does anyone else have any leads? Somebody must have bought something for these 250's!! At least I can use it as a guide to get my 230 assembled again.

Thanks

ya i have the exact same quad. I just got mine up and running since a friend of the family got sick of trying to fix it and gave it to me a year and a half ago. I have no problem with the chain coming off of mine and mine needs tightened. if i try to stand it up it will slip a little but i can rip on it for hours and have had no chain problems. as for performance parts good luck. I have found one place that has a big bore kit to make it a 273cc engine. Welcome to Four Stroke Tech.net!

I was lucky as mine was bored .50 over when i got it. the only problem i has since the rebuild is that i need my carb tuned a bit and i think my timing may possibly be a little bit on the retarded side.

A good friend of mine has the 230 like urs and there are many similarities but engine components arent transferable at all. ive found that they look the same but parts are always just slightly off.

Yes the chain issue is a problem on the 250s as well, it's usually caused by worn chain, sprockets, miss alighned engine, worn suspension bushings and bearings, just like the 230's.
Cases are hard to find for these, and can get costly.
As far as aftermarket stuff, Cobra seems to be the only dedicated exhaust for them right now, otherwise you can get a universal muffler to fit it with a little work. I have a Graydon pro line skid plate, and nerf nets so aftermarket stuff is out there, it's just not easy to find anymore. I have seen bumpers for them years ago, not sure who made them. I keep an eye on ebay myself for parts. Also many parts can still be got from the dealer.

kilifox -
What kind of piston is in it? I have had issues finding good over sized pistons for these quads. Also please fix that chain, you may never had a problem but it will put a hole in the case if not taken care of, a little prevention will a save a world of hurt.
