Default suzuki LT230‏ worth restoring?

I can get a 85' suzuki LT230‏ for $250 it comes with everything does not run. This is what the listing say's: has good set of tires. the motor is currently apart. has every thing you need to put it back together. the motor quit on me while i was riding. I'm pretty new to the quad sport. I have a taotao 125 for my kids, But nothing to ride around with them. would it be worth putting a couple of hundred dollors in it.

Another question. will 86' LT230s parts fit on a 85' LT230?

i assume the lt230 is another 230s. if so, then most of them will. there are some very small differences from what i understand and i cant tell you what those are, but as far as i know, most parts will interchange. from 85 to 88(?)

all engine and suspension parts interchange. i've built 24 230s models most of them are 85-86 models and a few 87 and 88 models. even most of the bearings are the same.

i would get it. but i would try to talk the person down to $200. bu thats me. i paid $400 for mine with a golfball sized hole in the mag cover. now i know i dumped a little over a couple hundred in mine but if you ever resell it like i may do with mine you can certainly get more out of it.

since everyone has been getting their taxes done i've had offers of $1100 to $1250 for mine. i might hold out for $1350 or $1400 before i consider selling. but as far if they are a good quad, yes most definately. i have pounded mine into the ground, trail riding, ramping, and a couple of races, and thats before i messed with the motor. and when your kids get to be around 12-14years old it will be a great starter quad. tons of torque so learning how to use a clutch is easier and plenty of power to get out of trouble and they can ride it forever as long as proper care is taken of it. ie chain tension, checking for bearing slop, and regular oil changes. i still have my original piston and rings from the factory in mine and its 25 years old.

there is alot about this quad in the big help thread. take a look through it and you'll see how dependable 230's are.

Default 86 suzuki?

I have a question if anyone would like to give me some insight. I have a 1986 suzuki lt 230s. When i purchased it it ran and drive but rattle and vibrate real bad when you reved it up. Well it will still fire up but when it gets hot the exhaust turns beet red and it smokes and will stop pulling. Can some one give some insite as to what it could be? Thanks

You have a bad crank bearing or crank arm also the smoking in coming from your piston rings. Replace the rings and see how long they last that will tell you if you have to split the case. Mines the one in the back now and I still ride.
