LT230s timing chain tensioner?
#1
I need some help on the LT230s the spring loaded tensioner. should that move in and out when its in the motor flexing with the chain or should it be tight keeping the guide in one spot.

the tensioner shaft has a taper. take the tensioner off, loosen the top bolt and push the shaft all the way in. temporarily retighten the bolt. this is loading the tensioner. then bolt the tensioner back on. slowly loosen the bolt and listen for the click sound as the shaft pops against the tensioner. then retighten the bolt. when the chain loosens, that shaft will push against the tensioner. with that bolt tightened, the tensioner can go tighter, but it can NOT get looser. now, its a manual adjusting tensioner. every so often, you have to reloosen the bolt and let it take up the slack.

So I'm kinda confused there is a spring on the tensioner. So your saying the shaft that has the spring over it should not move in and out as the chain loosens and tightens and with the bolt/screw tightened that means the shaft is stuck in one position.

the shaft, the one with the spring, when adjusted right will move in when the chain loosens but with that bolt on the top, it wont get so loose it jumps time. think of it as a stop. it will trail on the back of the tensioner taking up slack and move in and out but ONLY TO AN EXTENT. the amount it moves in is kept in check by the adjuster bolt.
