Hey all has anyone ever has an issue with the Z400 oil pump? Have mine apart rebuilding it and have clutch side cover off to replace the cam chain and was wondering about oil pump life since its easy to replace it now.

 

For what its worth...

I had my 89 dakota sport in for a new oil pan and radiator, I figured since they were in there anyway, they should replace the oil pump.
So i went ahead and had them replace it, Ran great for a few days, but I took it on a long trip and when i was 3/4 of the way there the head gasket blew..
the new oil pump raised the pressure too much for the old gaskets, so if you replace the pump replace all gaskets as well to be safe.
