Moving that clip has nothing to do with idle. Make sure your float is set right and your pilot jet is clean. The pilot is the one with little holes in it, the other is your main. Then adjust your pilot screw which is on the outside of the carb. Not sure, but most stock settings are about 2 turns out from LIGHTLY seated.

Have u checked ur plug color yet? It sounds lean to me since it runs with blocked airflow. Also, you really need to be doing all this with an airfilter on because it is designed to have that restriction

its hard to tell without knowing what kind of adjustments your using while holding your hand over it. but if you have to block most of the air flow to get it to idle then its running lean and you have something clogged in your idle circuit. most likely the pilot jet. but could also be that there is varnish somewhere in the circuit built up. run some carb cleaner through it followed by compressed air. do this several times through the pilot jet and through the hole that the pilot jet screws into.

i'm at work right now so i haven't had a chance to check anything, i don;t have an air-filter any more, about 6 years ago a mouse decided to move into the airbox and he thought the air filer would make a good bed.

any thoughts on where i can get an air filter for a machine this old?

i think i'm going to soak all the jets and everything over night. and then use compressed air.

the maneul i read said taht the main needle that is hooked up to the throttle has a C clip and like 4 notches on the top of it. it said to move the C clip up or down depending on what you needed rich or lean.

but i think i need to get it to Idel before i worry about idel settings so hopefully soaking it over night will clean it out.

i need to change the oil in this thing to but i can't find the oil filter???

also i'm sure the gas is bad.

i'll check stuff tonight and let you guys know what i find tomorrow.

thanks for the help

Any cycle shop should be able to get a filter, prob even have one in stock. On my 230's the oil filter is on the right side of the motor towards the front. There is a cover with 3 bolts and one in the middle

the throttle needle does adjust as you suggested. i believe moving the clip on the needle richens it while moving it down leans it out. i could have it backwards but you get the point lol
